The Fisher Towers Trail offers one of Moab's most unique and spectacular hiking experiences, winding through a surreal landscape of gargantuan, freestanding rock spires. Often described as a "Gothic city of stone," this trail is a dramatic departure from the nearby National Parks and a must-do for geology enthusiasts and photographers alike.
The Colossal Towers: Walk directly beneath the towering, distinctively red-hued formations, which were sculpted by millions of years of erosion. The most famous is The Titan, one of the largest freestanding sandstone spires in the United States, soaring over 900 feet into the sky.
"Ancient Art" Spire: See the impossibly balanced formation known as Ancient Art, famous worldwide for its corkscrew summit.
Adventure Sections: The trail features a few exciting, technical sections, including a short metal ladder and some steep climbs assisted by fixed ropes, adding a thrilling element to the hike.
Climber Watching: The Fisher Towers are a world-renowned destination for experienced rock climbers. You can often pause to watch tiny figures ascending the sheer vertical faces of the spires.
Panoramic Overlook: The hike culminates on a ridge with a stunning 360-degree view, featuring the entire Fisher Towers complex, Castle Valley, and the winding path of the Colorado River.
Be Prepared: This trail has virtually no shade. Bring ample water (a gallon per person in summer is recommended), sunscreen, a hat, and sturdy footwear.
Getting There: From Moab, drive north on US 191, then turn right onto UT-128 (River Road). The trailhead is clearly signed off a dirt road about 21 miles up the scenic byway.
Camping: A small, primitive BLM campground is located at the trailhead (first-come, first-served).
